They Live should be embraced as a true work of science fiction. The fact that it uses the context of an exciting story of aliens, gunfights and action to disguise the subtext of angry political outrage is the very essence of what sci-fi should be. As an audience, we shouldn’t be surprised when we pick at the surface of the plethora of blockbusters released every year to find they are trying to tell us something more
